Panel Discussion: Youth Perspectives on Peace and Revolution
I can not tell you how much I enjoyed today's session. The staff should congratulate itself again for "hitting it out of the ball park".
The morning session was fantastic with instructors who were knowledgeable, great communicators and excellent facilitators. The conversations generated from this seminar was insightful which allowed us to apply real life situations to theories that we were learning. The discussions will definitely help me frame the work I need to do with my students to help empower them to become leaders of tomorrow, instead of just more statistics.
I would be remiss if I did not ask our hosts to convey a special thanks to the guest participants of the afternoon session, who not only shared their personal and their perspective groups' thoughts surrounding the issue of refugees with total strangers, but also braved our penetrating questions and other comments. It was a special treat to be able to place real faces on global issues and concerns. All too often I, as a social studies teacher, had to rely on written narratives to try to convey the human elements of history to my students. Somehow, the message is never quite complete. Although, I am not knocking written narratives, I have used them multiple times in the past. It's just refreshing and some times rather interesting to see a physical being before you, to ask those questions that the written words did not seem to want to answer-no matter how many times my students and I have asked these questions.
Also, I want to thanks the group for sharing their thoughts and concerns. I feel that I have learned so much already. I am looking forward to the next session. Jerry
I wanted to ditto Jerry's entry and say, "Welcome to my world!" I'm very happy to know that you enjoyed it as much as I did. I wanted to let all the planners know that I am proud of them!
